Acquisitions & Library Systems Branch

line

The Acquisitions and Library Systems Branch verifies, locates, purchases, processes, and claims materials for the State Library, Government and Heritage Library collection and the large print book collection at the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Titles for the Government and Heritage Library are purchased in multiple formats: books in electronic and print formats; North Carolina newspapers in print, microfilm and digital formats; DVDs; internet resources, microfilm and large print books. Each new order for the Government and Heritage Library collection is approved by a committee of librarians. All approved orders are sent to Acquisitions and each one is researched for complete bibliographic information, price, and availability. If a title is not available, (not yet published/forthcoming) it is put into a holding area and checked for availability on a regular basis.

Vital to information discovery are the Government and Heritage Library’s automated systems – WebFeat, a federated search engine, and Voyager, the integrated library system. Both are managed by the Acquisitions and Library Systems Branch. The Branch also manages the Voyager system for its state government library partners at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Labor, Department of Transportation, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Executive Mansion Library, and the Legislative Library.
