North Carolina library staff and librarians are now invited to take pre-paid courses from Lyrasis. These online courses are taught by professional instructors and normally cost between $120 and $220. The State Library of North Carolina purchased a block of course units for eligible North Carolina library staff (those employed by NC LIVE libraries). This offer will last until the units are exhausted, or June 30, 2010, whichever comes first.

Those interested in taking online courses should first create a Lyrasis Member Account. This step is only required the first time; after that you’ll start by logging into your account and proceed through the steps below. Be sure to write down and save your user name and password; you will use it each time to login to My LYRASIS.

1. Go to http://www.lyrasis.org/
2. Click the “Classes and Events” tab. Available courses are listed under Scheduled Classes and Events. All courses under the “Distance Education” delivery method are taught online and require no travel. Courses can also be found by category.
3. Once you’ve selected a course and are ready to register, review the session, date, and location and click on the "Register" button. Make sure the session, date, and time you selected is correct and enter the required information. Click the “Add to Cart” button and add SLNC10 in the field labeled “Promo Code” and proceed to the Shopping Cart.
4. At check out you will be asked for your payment method; select “Bill Institution”. The combination of the code above and selecting this payment method will charge this course to the State Library of North Carolina. There will be no charge to your institution. Please understand your eligibility (library staff of NC LIVE libraries) and the rules for registering for Lyrasis courses before enrolling in a class. The class registration deadline is two weeks prior to each session. Registrations received after the deadline will be accepted as space permits and must be confirmed by calling the Lyrasis office at 800.999.8558. Since each course has been pre-purchased, please register only for courses you expect to attend and set aside enough time to complete each course in its entirety. You will receive a certificate of completion from Lyrasis once the course has been completed.
