North Carolina Gazette 15 Nov 1751Over 2,000 newspapers have been published in North Carolina since the North Carolina Gazette first appeared in New Bern in 1751. Many North Carolina newspapers have been microfilmed by the State Archives of North Carolina and are available for use at the Government and Heritage Library.

Most newspapers are not indexed, but these two resources may help you find what you're looking for, or at least give you a place to start.

NC Newspapers on Microfilm

After you've found the newspaper you want (see above) visit us to view the microfilm or contact your local public library to see if they can interlibrary loan the microfilm reel for you.

Other Microfilm Sources

You can view microfilm at the State Archives of North Carolina. Microfilm copies of many of their newspapers are for sale as well. See their site for more details.
