In response to a request for information from published sources, the staff will attempt to answer one question about one person at a specific time in a specific county. No more than five (5) indexes will be searched for each request. Microforms and unindexed books cannot be searched for mail inquiries.

No more than fifteen (15) photocopies will be provided for each request at a cost of three ($3) dollars (regardless of the number of pages). Please do not pay in advance; we will bill you for the exact amount. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. Patron is responsible for copyright compliance.

The staff cannot answer requests from other states for information on non-North Carolina ancestors. Address these inquiries to the appropriate repository in the state or colony where the ancestor lived, enlisted, married, died, etc.

The staff cannot do extensive research for mail or telephone inquiries; a list of researchers is available upon request.
