Annual Statistical Report

The Statistical Report of North Carolina Public Libraries is an annual compilation and analysis of selected data as reported by North Carolina's public libraries. The tables provide an overview of the staff, finances, collections, services, usage, and automation in North Carolina's public library systems.

To facilitate comparisons, the library systems are arranged by type (county, regional or municipal) and within type, by population of the legal service area. The legal service population figures are taken from the North Carolina Municipal Populations Estimates published by the State Demographics Unit of the North Carolina Office of State Budget, Planning and Management. Reports published by the Office of State Budget, Planning and Management are available at <http://demog.state.nc.us/>.

Definitions of the data elements in the Public Library Statistical Report Form are in accord with those required for participation in the Public Library Statistics Cooperative (formerly the Federal-State Cooperative System (FSCS) for Public Library Data). By using the data elements as defined by the Cooperative, North Carolina's public library statistics are comparable to those of the other 49 states and the District of Columbia. For the most recent national data on public libraries, visit the Institute of Museum and Library Services'' website at <http://harvester.census.gov/imls/publib.asp>.
