Library Services Section
The Library Services Section is responsible for providing library and information resources for North Carolinians to promote knowledge, education, and business. This function is carried out through the section's two libraries:

Government and Heritage Library
With its focus on North Carolina past and present, state government and genealogy resources, the newly named Government and Heritage Library comprises the services that have always been available to users of the State Library's physical and electronic collections.
Acquisitions/Library Systems Branch
Acquires library materials for the State Library's collections and manages the Library's integrated library system (Voyager).
Cataloging & Metadata Services Branch
Catalogs, and processes library materials for the State Library's collections; coordinates the N.C. Online Union List of Serials which inputs summary holdings information for newspapers, magazines, and other serial publications owned by all types of libraries in North Carolina into the OCLC database; participated in the N.C. Newspaper Project by locating and inventorying newspapers, preparing issues for microfilming, cataloging newspaper titles, and recording issue location information in the OCLC database.
Collections Management Branch
Manages and maintains the State Library's print, microform, and video resources.
Digital Information Management Program (DIMP)
Develops and implements policies, standards, and practices that support digital library collections and preservation of digital information produced by state government. DIMP also manages the production, management, preservation, and access to the State Library's digital library collections, including the Access to State Government Information Initiative, an effort focused on providing continued access to state government information in all formats, including born digital resources.
Government Documents Branch
Administers the North Carolina State Depository System and operates the N.C. State Publications Clearinghouse which receives, catalogs, and distributes state government publications to depository libraries in the state. Administers the federal depository program to receive and process federal government publications for the State Library's collection.
Information Services Branch
Provides a comprehensive program of reference service for state and local government agencies, businesses, other libraries, and the general public; direct circulation services to state employees; research assistance and training for electronic census products as a participant in the State Data Center program; access to federal documents, state documents, genealogical materials, periodicals, newspapers, and maps; and provides interlibrary loan services to libraries across the state.

Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
Provides library programs and services to citizens of N.C. who cannot read standard print due to a visual or physical disability; provides reading materials in alternative format, as well as specialized playback equipment via Free Matter for the Blind postal privileges, to over 10,000 citizens with disabilities.
