2006-2007 Career Enrichment Grants

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the State Library’s federally funded LSTA 2006-2007 Career Enrichment Grant program. This statewide project funds individuals from eligible North Carolina public, school, academic, special and state agency libraries to attend selected professional conferences. Please read the Information & Guidelines document (Word Document or .PDF) before completing an application. There will be three application cycles, each with its own deadline. Grant funds will support library staff attendance at the following conferences in 2006-2007:

You may want to print this section to use as a checklist.

1. Determine Eligibility  

This grant program is open to individuals who:

 

did NOT receive a Career Enrichment Grant in the last three fiscal years;

 

AND

 

are full- or part-time, paid library staff (Friends, trustees, and volunteers are not eligible); 

 

AND

 
 

are employed by any of the following eligible North Carolina libraries:

 
  • public libraries that qualify for grants from the Aid to Public Libraries Fund; 
  • community college libraries; 
  • libraries serving the constituent institutions of the  University of  North Carolina (which includes libraries serving the Area  Health  Education Centers and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics); 
  • libraries serving the member institutions of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities; 
  • public schools with a qualified school library media center*;
  • qualifying state agency libraries*
  • qualifying special libraries*
 

2. Print Eligibility Certification

Public school, state agency, and special libraries will be required to complete and submit a form certifying eligibility (Appendix B, C, or D of the Information & Guidelines). See Criteria for Eligibility, pages III-2,3,4 of Library Services & Technology Act Plan for Implementation in North Carolina – 2003-2007

3. Calculate Estimated Expenses
Complete Appendix A of the Information & Guidelines to calculate proposed expenses. If current registration information is not available, estimate your registration amount based on last year’s conference. Costs can be found via the links to the conference information in the table above.

Applicants need to register directly with the conference organization, which can be done at any time. Applicants may pay registration fees and/or make plane reservations prior to learning whether they have been awarded a grant; however, only those selected for funding will be reimbursed.

5. Complete Signature Page

Once you have submitted your online application, you will be prompted to print a Signature Page. Print this page, obtain required signatures, and fax or mail with supporting documents.  
Applications are not complete without this document.

6. Fax or Mail Supporting Documents (must be received by the grant application deadline).
