State Library of North Carolina

Saving PDF Forms with Acrobat Reader
How Does This Work?

Normally, users of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader cannot modify the content of a pdf document. But because we are using a commercial product/vendor– FormRouter.net – you can save an Adobe pdf document into which you’ve inserted content. And you can make any number of revisions before finally submitting to the State Library.

If you complete your narrative report the first time you enter data into the form, you can Submit then and you’re done. BUT if you want to do part of the report, save it, return to it, save it, work more before finally submitting, you can do that too.

Here's what you need:

·         Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1 or higher [Note: If you use Adobe Reader 7.0 you will even have spellcheck capability!]

·         Internet connection

Here's more detail on the steps:

  1. When you click on "Narrative Report" on the main report web page you'll go to the pdf report form at the FormsRouter web site. (Click through any messages, including any that say you cannot save data.)
  2. Input data.
  3. Stop.  Are you finished?
NO:  Click SAVE FORM on the last page of the pdf report form and go to Step 4 below.
YES:  Click SUBMIT on the last page of the pdf report form and go to Step 7 below.
  4. Save file to your desktop or directory of your choice (you may rename the file) .  Note file name for future reference.  Close browser.
  5. When ready to resume, open your browser.  Click File menu.  Click Open File.   Browse to select your saved form and Click Open. [If you wish to work on this file from a different computer, you will need to transfer the saved file by e-mail, disk, or other removable storage.]
  6. Continue data entry/editing.  Go to Step 3 above.
  7. After clicking SUBMIT, you will see a message that says your form has been successfully submitted.
  8. Close your browser.
  9. You will receive an email confirmation from Raye Oldham; it will include an attached copy of your report.
  10. Open and read email.  Click Save Attachments.  Save attachment to your desktop or directory of your choice (you may rename the file).  Note file name.
  11. Open Browser.
  12. Click file.  Click Open File.  Select the saved file.  This will be a copy of what you have submitted.
  13. We recommend that you print the email message and narrative report for your permanent grant file.
