Reference service is available to North Carolina state agency employees for work-related inquiries and to educators, students and researchers on topics relating to North Carolina history, government, data/demographics, and genealogy.

In-Person

The Government & Heritage Library has two reference points to better serve researchers. Both are located in the Archives & History/State Library Building at 109 E. Jones Street in Raleigh, NC.

Genealogical Services - Mezzanine floor, West side of the building
Genealogy collection, US Census population schedules, genealogy vertical files, electronic genealogy databases.

Reference & Access Services - 1st floor, West side of the building
Reference, circulation, periodicals, newspapers, microfilm, electronic databases.

Telephone Reference

Reference assistance is available to North Carolina state agency employees and researchers during the Government & Hertiage Library's normal business hours. Visitors may also call ahead when requesting books, microfilm and other items to be retrieved from our closed stacks prior to their arrival.
