Tuesday, August 8, 2017

Our book for August 11, 2017 is Light A Penny Candle by Maeve Binchy (1983). DB043536 and LT035371. The National Library Service's description is: "From the time in 1940 when shy, ten year old Elizabeth White is evacuated from wartime London and plunged into a large and contentious family in the Irish village of Kilgarret, she and Aisling O'Connor are destined to be the best of friends. This novel follows their lives together and apart over the decades." This is historical fiction set in Ireland and England during WWII and afterwards. It's the story of two families, their lives, and their involvement with one another.

Our book for our September meeting will be The Girl On the Train (2015). DB080635 and MD001504. The description reads: "Rachel's train commute to London passes her former house -- now inhabited by her ex husband and his new family. She also observes a happy young neighboring couple -- but then the wife goes missing. Rachel believes she witnessed a critical clue, but her alcoholic blackouts make her an unreliable witness." This is a commercially recorded audiobook. The Descriptive Video stars Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, and Luke Evans.
