The Government and Heritage Library (GHL) is pleased to announce Francesca Evans as the new Community Engagement Librarian!

Community Engagement Librarian

The Community Engagement Librarian is a new position at GHL. In this role, Francesca will collaborate with State Library of North Carolina team members to plan, develop, and implement the library’s outreach and community engagement program. Additionally, she will assist with traditional reference responsibilities in the GHL reading room and online through the “Chat with a Librarian” service.Francesca Evans, Community Engagement Librarian

Background in State Archives

In March, Francesca transferred to the State Library after over ten years of service at the State Archives of North Carolina. In her last position as the Information Management Archivist, she managed, collaborated, and promoted online digital collections to ensure access is available to users. Francesca also worked in the public services and records descriptions units, providing her with a broad understanding of North Carolina government, history, and genealogical research. She looks forward to sharing her wealth of knowledge about the State Archive’s collection with the GHL’s patrons.

Transition to the Government and Heritage Library

Francesca’s transition has been quite straightforward because she previously collaborated with GHL team members to plan, implement, and complete outreach projects and events, such as the Veterans Oral History Transcription Project. She collaborated with GHL team members by being the digitization and volunteer coordinator for the project.

Since starting in March, Francesca presented a poster at the Society of North Carolina Archivists Annual Conference titled “It Takes a Village: Developing North Carolina History Memory Allies for Sustaining ANCHOR, a NC History Online Resources” developed and written by Kelly Agan, Digital Projects Librarian. She also co-presented “Careers in the Arts You Never Knew You’d Love” at the Hispanic Educational Summit with Jennifer Hanft, Education/Instruction Librarian.

Come Meet Francesca

With Francesca Evans on staff, the Government and Heritage Library looks forward to expanding our outreach and community engagement. Keep an eye out for new projects. In the meantime, meet Francesca Evans in the GHL reading room or at any of the GHL’s upcoming outreach events.
