Digital Preservation Exploration Summary Meeting

Digital Preservation Exploration Summary Meeting
Description:

The Government & Heritage section of the State Library of North Carolina invites you to register to participate in the virtual Digital Preservation Exploration Summary Meeting on Wednesday, September 18 from 1:00-3:00pm.

In May and June 2019, digital preservation practitioners from a variety of North Carolina cultural institutions - academic libraries, public libraries, museums, government libraries, archives, etc - participated in one of three regional meetings to discuss their experiences with digital preservation, including challenges, needs, and current situations. This was part of the Statewide Leadership Project: Digital Preservation Exploration. The meetings sought to learn what NC practitioners may need or face with digital preservation at their respective institutions as well as to facilitate open communication and potential future collaborations.

The Digital Preservation Exploration Summary Meeting will provide an overview of the three regional meetings’ discussions and conclusions. We will go over the distributed summary report of the regional meetings and also provide an open floor for both those who participated in the meeting to share their additional thoughts and recommendations as well as other interested North Carolina professionals who wish to engage in this conversation. We hope to provide an inclusive, open dialogue about digital preservation in North Carolina so that we can share what we’ve learned thus far and determine how best to move forward.

Who:
Anyone interested in hearing about and discussing North Carolina’s cultural institutions’ experiences with digital preservation and potential next steps for collaborations and addressing needs. This may include participants from one of the three meetings, those who could not attend any of those meetings, or others who engage with cultural institutions or digital preservation, specifically in North Carolina.

Register - Please register by 11:59pm, Friday, September 13, 2019.

*NOTE: this meeting will be recorded for additional distribution and public use. Recording will only include the presentation screen and audio*
