Youth Services Librarian - Wake County Public Libraries, Wendell Community Library

In a Community Library, two Youth Services Librarians develop, promote and present programs for the young child through school-age. All Young Child programs are based on the pre-literacy skills of Every Child Ready to Read. Librarians can expect to deliver between 2-9 weekly programs with support from Library Assistants. Librarians also work with teens through the Teen Leadership Corps. In addition, Librarians work on a public service desk providing excellent customer service. They assist members with reference, readers’ advisory, and technical assistance, and are responsible for the maintenance and marketing of areas of the library collection.

Librarians work in close collaboration with Library Managers and other Librarians who work within the same programming areas to collaborate and share ideas about successful programs. Youth Services Librarians participate in system-wide initiatives, such as the Storytelling Festival, Summer at the Library Kick-Off, and Halloween Hoot.
