Family History Fair: Harvesting Heritage

The State Library and the State Archives of North Carolina invite you to the 2024 NC Family History Fair. This year’s theme is Harvesting Heritage, and the event will focus on foodways and oral histories as sources of connection and preservation of history. Join librarians, archivists, and other experts as they celebrate North Carolina's culinary traditions and offer insight into “harvesting” heritage through oral histories and genealogical research. The Family History Fair will open with a keynote panel featuring representatives from the NC African American Heritage Commission, Southern Foodways Alliance, and more. The afternoon will feature presentations on oral histories and getting started in genealogy. The fair will include "Ask-a-Librarian" and "Ask-an-Archivist" tables, youth activities, research support, heirloom preservation guidance, and a cookbook swap. The Family History Fair will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024 in the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Building in Downtown Raleigh. This event is free and open to the public. The SLNC Government and Heritage Library and the State Archives will be open for research.
