About Accessible Books and Library Services

The North Carolina Accessible Books and Library Services (NC-ABLS) is a special public library that circulates books and magazines especially made for persons who cannot use regular printed material because of a visual, physical or reading disability.

The library is located in Raleigh, but mails materials throughout the state. The NCABLS is a state agency operated by the State Library of North Carolina as a part of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. It is also a part of the network of regional libraries operated by the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS).

The library is committed to reaching out to anyone who needs or wants our services.

Our Outreach Services Department strives to bring out our best so we make more people aware of our services and their eligibility. Find out more about how we provide outreach services.
