NLS Summer Reading Program 2023

The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) is having its first Summer Reading Program and it begins today! Each week during the summer, patrons may register to attend author talks, story times, and musical performances on Zoom! NLS is kicking off its Summer Reading Program TODAY 

To attend these virtual programs, library patrons must register to attend each free summer reading event. Most of these events will not be recorded or posted anywhere else and will not have the chance to view these events if you are not there for the live event.

NLS’s Summer Reading Program Schedule:

Monday, June 26, at 4:00 PM EDT

Kickoff event (all ages) with Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden.

 

Thursday, June 29, at 7:00 PM EDT

Author talk (adult) with Shelby Van Pelt, author of Remarkably Bright Creatures.

 

Thursday, July 6, at 7:00 PM EDT

Story time and music (designed for K–3rd grade, but all are welcome) with Matt Mazur.

 

Tuesday, July 11, at 7:00 PM EDT

Author talk (designed for middle grades, but all are welcome) with Celia Perez, author of The First Rule of Punk.

 

Saturday, July 22, at 1:00 PM EDT

Author talk (designed for K–5th grade, but all are welcome) with Annette Bay Pimentel, author of All the Way to the Top: How One Girl’s Fight for Americans with Disabilities Changed Everything, and Jennifer Keelan-Chaffins, whose story is told in the book.

 

Thursday, July 27, at 7:00 PM EDT

Author talk (designed for YA and middle grades, but all are welcome) with Kwame Alexander, author of The Crossover.

 

Thursday, August 3, at 7:00 PM EDT

Author talk (designed for YA, but all are welcome) with Jenny Torres Sanchez, author of We Are Not from Here.
