Eastern North Carolina Braille Challenge 2024

SLNC-ABLS is excited to host the Braille Challenge this year in partnership with Governor Morehead School. 

The Braille Challenge is a competition in which visually impaired students can be recognized for their skill in braille.  It also offers a unique opportunity for the top scorers to compete in the finals which are held in California.

The Braille Challenge this year is being held at Governor Morehead School Monday, February 19th from 8 am to 3:30pm. (Our backup day is Monday, February 26th)
We are still looking for volunteers to help with the following:

In-Room Roles:

  • Test Administrators: Assist participants in various   challenges. (Must be familiar with Braille)
  • Proctors: Support Test Administrators and participants.

Logistics and Support:

  • Set Up: Help prepare for the event before it begins.
  • Breakdown: Assist with cleanup after the event concludes.
  • Runners: Provide versatile support, delivering   completed test to graders, serving as sighted guides, and helping as needed.

Hospitality:

  • Lunch Pickup: Collect lunch from the selected restaurant.
  • Food Servers: Serve lunch to attendees during the break.
  • Greeters: Welcome attendees and assist with participant intake.
  • Cupcake Bakers: Prepare enough special treats for participants and volunteers.
