Description: The State Library of North Carolina (SLNC) is seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our team! The Outreach Specialist will be responsible for overseeing outreach activities to increase awareness and understanding of the library’s services and recruit eligible patrons who cannot read standard print due to a visual, physical, or reading disability. 

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participating in planning and executing the annual outreach program, maintaining partnerships with disability groups, veterans' organizations, and public libraries statewide
  • Delivering presentations, set up exhibits, and represent the library at conferences, meetings, and events, promoting resources to various stakeholders
  • Creating and update print, braille, and digital outreach materials, including brochures, flyers, promotional videos, and web pages
  • Writing and edit social media content and newsletter articles to promote library services, events, and volunteer opportunities
  • Distributing surveys, compile and analyze feedback data, and maintain outreach statistics for strategic planning and reporting
  • Assisting with recruiting, coordinating, and supervising volunteers for outreach activities, events, and recognition programs
  • Maintaining ongoing communication and collaboration with internal staff, library patrons, and external organizations to promote and enhance library services

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of best practices for marketing and conducting outreach in libraries or non-profits, especially for targeted audiences.
  • Demonstrated working experience crafting content for marketing materials, social media, and delivering presentations.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of accessibility standards and practices for engaging with individuals who have visual or physical impairments.
  • Demonstrated working experience creating and editing webpages, blogs, and social media posts using relevant tools and software.
  • Demonstrated working experience initiating and maintaining professional relationships with organizations, public libraries, and individuals serving people with disabilities.

Management Prefers:

  • Working knowledge of library resources and services, particularly those related to serving individuals with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of ADA guidelines and best practices for creating accessible content for individuals with visual, physical, or reading disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to present to diverse audiences, including professionals and individuals with disabilities.

 

Salary: $31,200- $47,000
