DESCRIPTION

The Children’s Librarian is responsible for the provision of library services for children and their caregivers in the Children’s Library of Central Library to include circulation, reference, reader’s advisory and overall customer service.

This position plans, publicizes, prepares and performs weekly story times for preschool children, and regularly programs for youth from birth to tween, including music and movement, summer reading, STEAM programming, and regular tween programming. Collection Development responsibilities include serving on the JSWAT team to select materials for youth for all library locations, weeding, and collection maintenance at library location. Other duties include conducting tours, and merchandising the collection. This position will assist customer with public computers, online assistance, downloading materials and general computer and technology questions. This position will work closely with the Children’s Library Team in serving the public and planning programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Library Science (MLIS) degree from an ALA accredited library school. Must obtain certification of the North Carolina Public Librarian Certification Commission.

SALARY

$45,115.20 to $51,881.48 annually
