Description: The Children’s Outreach Librarian oversees youth services outreach, including site visits and programs like Stories to Go and Rowan Reads to Newborns; oversees an assigned collection development area(s); provides professional information and reference assistance at public service desks. Additional duties include, but are not limited to; coordinating the daily operations of the library’s children’s outreach initiatives in compliance with County policies and library policies and procedures; collaborates with other library staff and local agencies to promote children’s outreach programs, resources, and services; identifies and initiates children’s out-reach opportunities, supporters, and audiences; creates and presents children’s programs including information presentations and representing the library at events; provides personal assistance to users in pursuit of information; promotes and facilitates access to information; provides directional and other basic information; creates displays, instructional materials, and bibliographies; and other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work required. Must be enthusiastic, customer-driven, solution-focused, and team centered.
Qualifications: Requires considerable knowledge of library principles, practices, procedures, and resources in assigned areas including customer experience, reference work, circulation, classification, and cataloging, and the ALA Core Competencies and Bill of Rights; ability to operate computers, smart devices, and other standard library equipment and software; ability to offer technology assistance.
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science and/or Information Science or equivalent combination of education and experience; ALA accredited degree preferred. All degrees/Coursework must be from an appropriately accredited institution. Experience working with the public in a library and NC Public Library Certification eligibility preferred. Valid driver’s license required.
Salary: $54,600 - $60,000 (commensurate with experience)
