Description: Working closely with the Digital Production Center’s manager, you will digitize, perform quality control of digital collections, prepare metadata for digital objects and participate in the process of creating and sustaining digital collections at Duke University Libraries. This internship provides excellent hands-on experience for candidates seeking a career in cultural heritage digitization or digital collections in libraries and/or archives. Responsibilities include preparing materials for digitization; creating digital captures using scanning equipment in the Digital Production Center; evaluating digital captures for quality control; finalizing files for ingest into the Duke Digital Repository; preparing metadata for ingest into Duke Digital Repository; promoting the DPC and Duke Digital Collections through blog posts and social media; and assisting the Digital Collections Implementation Team in digital collections related work as needed.
Qualifications: BA/BS and current enrollment or recent graduate in a relevant field or in archival studies or public history or MLS program accredited by the ALA. Preferred interest in digitization and digital collections; strong analytical, organizational, and writing skills; and excellent communication skills.
