Join the SLNC Government and Heritage Library for a virtual webinar on GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping and data. The North Carolina Historic Preservation Office (HPO) will be presenting an overview of their GIS Program and how it supports historic preservation efforts across the state!
GIS is a tool for mapping and analyzing data tied to specific locations. In historic preservation, it helps visualize where historic sites are and how they’ve changed over time. In this webinar, the HPO will demonstrate how they create and manage GIS data for historic resources, use spatial analysis to assess impacts like flooding, and design custom maps for field surveys and National Register nominations. Attendees will also learn about interactive tools such as HPOWEB and story maps, which can be used to discover and research North Carolina’s historic resources.
This event is free, open to the public, and will be recorded and made available to the public through the SLNC YouTube channel.
