Description:

The Librarian (Digital Production) is a key member of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s Archives and Special Collections department and is responsible for producing digital images of rare and archival materials, performing post-capture enhancements, and ingesting the digital images and accompanying metadata into CM Library’s digital repository (TIND DA). Other major responsibilities include documenting projects and processes, metadata creation, maintaining the organization of digital files, and volunteer coordination. This role requires substantial subject matter expertise in all aspects of digitization workflows. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of public library experience
  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • NC Public Library certification required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire
  • Demonstrated ability in operating digital imaging/photography equipment (DSLR/mirrorless cameras and associated lighting techniques, flatbed and document fed scanners, etc.) in cultural heritage settings (preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital imaging standards (such as FADGI 2023, ISO 19264-1, IIIF) (preferred)
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or other image post-processing software (preferred)
  • Knowledge of MARC metadata standards (preferred)
  • Knowledge of archival management systems and/or digital asset management systems (preferred)
