DESCRIPTION

The Library Assistant II Children’s Programming is under the direct supervision of the Librarian II - Children's Services with oversight from the Programming Team & Director. The position supports the development, promotion, and facilitation of children’s programs and events, and may independently lead or coordinate them for ages 0-13. It represents the library at outreach events and helps create marketing materials while contributing to website and newsletter. Responsibilities include designing displays, staffing reference desks, maintaining the Children’s Department, and overseeing the dept in the Librarian’s absence. The role provides customer service, offering information assistance, readers’ advisory, circulation support, and basic technology help, while also assisting with library projects, outreach activities, and custodial tasks as needed. The position upholds the Library’s Code of Conduct to ensure a safe & welcoming environment. This job description may be updated as organizational needs evolve.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires availability on nights and weekends. High school diploma is required, and an associate’s degree is preferred. Public library experience is required, including at least one year of working directly with children ages 0–13. Strong social media and technology skills are essential, and bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
