Library Cataloging Assistant - The Mint Museum Library

Description: The Library Cataloging Assistant will perform basic cataloging tasks including copy cataloging, assigning of call numbers, copying and creating authority records, and the physical processing of catalogued materials. Training in Mint Museum systems and resources for best practices will be provided. The Library Cataloging Assistant will report to the Director of Library & Archives. This is a temporary position for a total of 200 hours performed during library open hours (M-F 9am-5pm). The successful candidate will have familiarity with AACR2, RDA, LC Authority Records and MARC standards, some knowledge of and/or background in art or art history, and familiarity with LC Classification and Z39.5 protocol. Other requirements include a general knowledge of library collections, materials, and terminology, and general knowledge of basic cataloging resources, basic knowledge of and facility with library ILS and general office software, the ability to work accurately, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to two years of college and some experience in library work, preferably in technical services. Graduate students with coursework in Information Organization and Access (or equivalent course) will be considered. Previous cataloging experience, evidence of coursework and/or cataloging training required.

Salary: $20/hour
