Description: The Library Director is the highest authority in the WCPL and is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures to accomplish the goals and objectives of the County, Community Services, and WCPL. This position is also responsible for leading, planning, organizing, maintaining, and directing the facilities and services of the library system. The Director provides vision and strategic direction for WCPL, working closely with the Community Services Director. This work frequently includes local municipalities, County Administration, and the Board of Commissioners. The Library Director is the liaison with library organizations throughout the state, including the State Library of North Carolina.

Qualifications: Wake County seeks a collaborative, strategic thinker, and excellent communicator to serve as its next Library Director. The ideal candidate will be community-focused, fair, and consistent. They will be progressive and lead by example. The next Library Director will focus on developing a positive team culture, strategic planning, communicating and managing change, community engagement, and staff development and engagement. The position requires a master’s degree in library science, library and information science, or a related field — an MLS, MLIS, MIS, or ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program — and six years of experience in a library setting with management responsibilities. An equivalent combination of education and experience will not be accepted. The candidate must have eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Public Librarian Certification Commission.

Salary: $120,000 - $171,000
