Position Description: The Main Library will be Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s (CML’s) 115,000-square-foot flagship location, opening in early 2027 in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. Envisioned as a cultural, civic, and future-forward destination, it will be a public commons that connects knowledge, culture, and creativity. Co-located with the Theatres at Spirit Square, the new Main Library is designed to be a vibrant, inclusive, multi-use hub focused on strengthening public engagement and supporting economic opportunity.

This position is for a Main Library Manager responsible for the facility's daily operations, staffing, and strategic alignment. The Manager will be a visionary leader who stewards a dynamic, collaborative team and ensures a high standard of public service. As a key figure in CML’s most ambitious capital project, the Manager will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to implement the vision for community-centered service and cultural connectivity.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in library management, public service, or organizational leadership. Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science/Information Studies or a related field such as public administration, education, or nonprofit leadership.

Preferred:
Proven track record managing complex library operations and large teams in an urban, high-demand environment. Advanced knowledge of current and future-focused library practices, evolving services, and contemporary and emerging resources. Familiarity with capital project implementation or facility transitions is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to lead through change, inspire innovation, and operationalize strategic goals. Successful record with developing staff leadership skills and abilities

Salary: $86,396.00 - $107,994.50
