Makerspace Librarian - North Carolina State University Libraries

Description: This position supports daily operations of the Makerspace program based in the Hill Library, including assisting patrons with their technical needs; maintaining and recommending specialized equipment (such as 3D printers, scanners, and laser cutters) and associated component and supplies inventories; monitoring hardware and software configurations; and updating web content related to these services. They support student/faculty learning through consultations, workshops and course-based instruction, and web-based tutorials and other learning content; oversee and conduct room scheduling, laptop maintenance, and space management procedures; recruit, hire, supervise, and develop student and temporary staff; protects the safety of Makerspace users and staff by training staff, orienting users, monitoring potential hazards, and documenting best practices, rules, and procedures; oversee specialized equipment lending for Makerspace-related technologies and help to track and report data on the use of spaces and services; help to plan, promote, and deliver events and workshops and contribute to outreach and community building.

ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent and relevant advanced degree. Relevant experience, such as experience with traditional and digital maker tools and makerspace services. Knowledge of CAD/CAM tools and applications. Experience providing user services such as training or consultation. Ability to manage complex information and data related to equipment maintenance, inventory, and usage in a changing environment. Ability to explore and incorporate emerging technologies, such as electronics, 3D printing, augmented/virtual reality, and digital media, into curricular and research support. Ability to communicate clearly and knowledgeably. Ability to foster an environment of well-being and belonging. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Evidence of ability for professional development and contribution.

Salary: $65,000
