Description: Manage the Duke Center for Firearms Law's Historical Gun Law Repository, a searchable online database of over 1,600 historical gun regulations from medieval England through the 1930s that is hosted on the Center’s website. Maintain and organize Excel backup of Repository and physical PDF back-ups for Repository laws. Add links to source material to existing laws in the Repository. Coordinate with Center executive director, research assistants, and outside groups to add new laws to the Repository and refine law categorization and coding. Field technical and user feedback about the Repository. This is a term-limited, 2-year position. Possibility of renewal dependent on continuation of grant and/or gift funding specifically targeted to support this work. Some hybrid/remote work and flexibility possible.
Qualifications: B.A. required, history or political science major preferred (ideally with research experience for thesis or other capstone project in that area); M.L.S./M.I.S. valued; Familiarity with legal research databases (specifically HeinOnline and Making of Modern Law) preferred.
