Description: The purpose of this position is to serve as the Youth Services Librarian of the Canton Branch Library and to act as Librarian in Charge in the absence of the Branch Manager. This staff person will: plan, schedule, promote, conduct, and evaluate programs for children and families; provide readers’ advisory services to children and adult caregivers; monitor day-to-day branch activity and recommend strategies for more effective service; reconcile daily monetary transactions; supervise staff by monitoring schedules and assigning tasks; communicate effectively and resolve problems with library users and staff while modeling customer service excellence. Oversees and manages children and youth programming and outreach activities; makes presentations to public and private groups and agencies to promote awareness of library activities. Maintains children’s book collections by ordering, evaluating collections, and deselecting worn and/ or outdated materials; monitors and manages expenditures of applicable book budgets. Facilitates welcoming library spaces and responsive public services.
Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA- or AASL-accredited program in library or information science or related field; one year experience as a librarian, or equivalent combination of education and experience. North Carolina Public Librarian Certification preferred.
