New Director of Library Development

Sarah Gransee became the new Director of Library Development at the State Library of North Carolina in November 2023. Sarah has over 15 years of professional library experience and most recently served as the Branch Services Manager for Buncombe County Public Libraries. Sarah began her library career as a media specialist with Wake County Public Schools, before moving to western NC to pursue opportunities in public libraries. "The unifying factor of my roles in youth services, library branch management, and public library administration has been my passion for connecting and empowering communities through library service," Sarah shares. "Library Development provides leadership and expertise to public, community college, and academic libraries, and I'm honored to be leading an incredible team that serves libraries throughout North Carolina." Sarah earned her BA in English and Spanish from Meredith College and her MLS from UNC-Chapel Hill.

"New to NC" is a virtual series hosted by the State Library of North Carolina's Government and Heritage Library, offering an array of topics catered to new North Carolinians.

This series provides information on various subjects, including transportation, employment, housing, social services, tourism, recreation, art, music, cultural heritage, and more. Each program aims to equip newcomers with valuable insights and resources to help them make the most of their experience in North Carolina. The February 13 edition will feature the North Carolina Museum of Art.
