Statement on Engagement and Accessibility

The State Library of North Carolina advocates for freedom of inquiry and expression, and accessibility. We support underrepresented communities and we reject discrimination in all forms.

In our services to individuals and to libraries, we are committed to:

  • ACCESS: removing barriers created by systemic practices and implicit bias and fostering equitable access to trustworthy information, relevant library services and educational opportunities;

  • COMMUNITY: building strong communities by supporting open and comprehensive conversations that lead to positive change;

  • EDUCATION: advancing the study, understanding, and appreciation of North Carolina's cultural heritage by representing all populations with fairness and integrity.

We recognize and value the role of libraries in transforming communities and we are committed to thoughtful action to ensure that all North Carolinians live more abundant and purposeful lives.
