What kind of positions are listed?
The State Library posts these listings as a service to libraries in the state and only posts North Carolina library related positions! The categories are:
- Professional: These are the professional (MLS required) librarian positions that are open in North Carolina.
- Paraprofessional: This is a listing of library related positions that do not require an MLS or equivalent. This includes automation positions as well as any others that do not require an MLS.
- State Library: Positions available at the State Library of North Carolina. This list includes professional (MLS required) and other positions within the State Library of North Carolina.
- Listings are also categorized into public, academic, and special libraries.
How long are positions listed?
Unless notified by the hiring library or organization, we will list a position until the closing date of the hiring period. For positions without a closing date we remove the posting after at least six months.
Who can we contact with questions or comments?

How do you receive position announcements?
Usually the announcement comes directly from the hiring institution via submitted form, but occasionally a posted position comes from a listserv or other source.
What information is included in an announcement?
We prefer to include the following information:
- LIBRARY: Library name
- CITY: Town in North Carolina
- NOTE: Any additional information
- SALARY: Any salary related information, including benefits
- QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience
- DUTIES: A brief description of the job responsibilities, salary, qualifications, experience, etc.
- AVAILABLE: When position is available
- APPLY BY: Application deadline
- TO APPLY: How to apply
- FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: How to get additional information about the position, including contact information

No charge!
