Description: Under limited supervision, the Digitization Technician will be responsible for assessing materials for digitization, choosing the best workflow, scanning items, describing them with established metadata standards, performing initial quality control, and uploading to the Center’s content management systems. The person in this position will meet with partner institutions when they visit the Center, and promote the Center’s work through blog posts, social media, conferences. This position will be the primary contact for training staff at both the Chapel Hill and Elizabeth City locations. They must be able to work independently and make appropriate judgements while working with partner materials. Occasional solo travel for partner site visits may be required.
Qualifications: Three years of direct work experience with digitization and following established metadata standards, particularly in an archive, library, or museum setting. Experience with the TIND content management system and National Digital Newspaper Program standards. Experience working at or closely with small or mid-sized cultural heritage institutions.
