Description: Reporting to the Assistant Director/Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services, the Metadata Librarian focuses on the creation, analysis, enrichment, and maintenance of metadata representing digital and digitized materials for the Library and Learning Commons and the University Archives. This position will work closely with colleagues to organize and lead projects related to description of resources in digital collections in the Libraries’ enterprise integrated library system (Alma) and other platforms as appropriate. The Metadata Librarian investigates and recommends metadata schemas and standards for digital assets, creates and sustains controlled vocabularies, and oversees maintenance activities. In collaboration within the team, the position will provide expertise and leadership in the development, implementation, and assessment of metadata policies and procedures while keeping up to date with external developments and standards and identifying changing needs and areas of growth within the scope of metadata and discovery.

Qualifications: Requires the Masters in Library Science (MLS) degree. In specialized libraries, may substitute an advanced degree in the field of specialization (e.g., legal degree for a law library, or a history degree for a special historical collection within the library setting).
