Using Library of Congress Controlled Vocabularies in Everyday Cataloging
Library of Congress has released a number of thesaurus-based vocabularies to supplement their (quite complicated) subject headings vocabulary. This webinar will introduce several LC vocabularies, how to freely access them, and how to use them in catalog record creation. This session is part of the Descriptive Cataloging Webinar Series, https://slnc.info/DCseries

Critical Cataloging with New Controlled Vocabularies

A number of controlled vocabularies have been revised and/or released in the last decade to provide uniform ways in which we can describe creator and/or audience identities and characteristics. This opens new possibilities for critical cataloging, allowing us to group together works by certain subsets of creators (e.g., books by women) or about certain groups of people (e.g., television shows featuring LGBTQ+ characters). In this webinar, you will be introduced to some of these vocabularies (focusing only on those that are freely accessible) and will view demonstrations of how to navigate and use them.

More Descriptive Cataloging Basics

This webinar will focus on useful elements in a descriptive catalog record, going beyond the basics outlined in the “Descriptive Cataloging Basics” webinar. We will discuss what should be recorded and how, RDA cataloging rules, and MARC encoding. By the end of the webinar, students will understand how to create/edit a detailed descriptive catalog record. This session is part of the Descriptive Cataloging Webinar Series, https://slnc.info/DCseries
