About the State Library
Established in 1812, the State Library of North Carolina (SLNC) provides exceptional library service and exceptional service to libraries. We enrich the lives of North Carolinians through access to information resources; we strengthen communities through exceptional library services; and we inspire and support literacy and lifelong learning for all North Carolinians. The State Library is a division of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
There are four sections of the State Library:
- Government and Heritage Library - The principal library of state government; North Carolina information and research expertise
- Library Development - Supporting libraries throughout the state
- Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped - Serving North Carolina readers unable to use standard print materials
- SLNC Library Administration supports all functions of the State Library of North Carolina
