About the State Library of North Carolina
Since 1812, the State Library of North Carolina has helped people and libraries across the state grow, learn, and thrive
The State Library has three main parts:
- Accessible Books and Library Services: Offers books, materials, and equipment for people who can’t use regular print due to a visual or physical disability.
- Government & Heritage Library: Helps people explore North Carolina’s history, culture, and family roots with a wide range of resources.
- Library Development: Supports libraries across the state with expert advice, training, grants, and funding.
The State Library of North Carolina is part of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
